Dance at UW-Milwaukee is committed to the development of skillful and vibrant dance artists and educators in their pursuit of a comprehensive education built upon diverse practices, research, and community engagement. Our innovative curriculum integrates multiple disciplines and somatic practices, creating a learning environment that prioritizes a balance of body and mind knowledge with informed, creative expression. Outside of the classroom, our students are involved with 100% of the city’s professional dance companies, including Danceworks, Ko-Thi, Wild Space, Oni, Milwaukee Ballet, The PlayGround and more. The Department of Dance is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Dance (NASD), and has been an institutional member of NASD since 2011.
Alumni
Media
Auditions will be virtual this year.
Applicants will complete the dance application by 1) Uploading a statement of intent, 2) Copying active links into the dance application after uploading the required footage to a private YouTube or Vimeo account, and 3) Meeting with faculty for a virtual interview. Applicants are encouraged to connect to the community at Peck School of the Arts by joining virtual tours and townhalls.
Statement of Intent (minimum 300 words)
How do your interests and past experiences relate to your intended college choice and career path?
Performance Videos
1) Solo – performance in any dance style (Duration: 1 minute)
2) Two to Three samples of technique/style/movement - i.e. warmup, barre, jumps, freestyle, center, across the floor, improvisation, etc. (Duration: 5-10 minutes each)
Filming tips for your audition:
1) Plan ahead – uploading 20 – 25 minutes worth of content will take time and may even take
several days. Do not edit footage or sound.
2) Film in an appropriate location – reserving time at a dance studio or gym is best, but any
open space will work. Use landscape format if you’re filming on a cell phone. We want to see
your whole body and all the movements as much as possible.
3) Be yourself! The faculty wants to see you – and it’s hard to do that on camera – so select a
solo and samples that tell us as much as possible about who you are. This is a great place to
show some of your own choreography and/or your unique qualities.
Interview
