As a dance major at DeSales, you'll develop your technical and creative potential while learning to express yourself as a diverse and informed artist.
Our curriculum offers a theoretical and practical approach to the art of dance which will stimulate your physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual growth and prepare you for a professional career in the field of dance. In addition to the prescribed curriculum, the DeSales Dance Department offers a vast array of performance, choreographic, and masterclass opportunities to our dance majors each year.
Through our partnership with Silo and Dancenow/NYC, the department brings in more than 20 guest artists per year to teach master classes and to choreograph. We offer unique opportunities to participate in historical reconstructions of masterworks of choreography in addition to internationally recognized choreographers of today.
You'll work with innovative dance professionals and be exposed to a wide variety of approaches to dance. As a result, you'll become well-rounded in your technique and have a broad view of the possibilities of working in the field.
The combination of foundational training, experiential learning, and unique collaborations with diverse departments on campus has been proven to help our students find meaningful employment in the field of dance after graduation. Our alumni are proudly working in all areas of performance, dance education, and arts administration.
Our core dance curriculum offers courses that are both practical and theoretical, including:
