MARCAS Overview

Welcome to the 2019 Mid-Atlantic Regional College Theatre and Dance Auditions! The auditions will be held at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey (approximately 20 minutes from Philadelphia) on Sunday, November 3rd, 2019 from 9am-5pm. The auditions will also include a college fair with plenty of callback time built in. The cost will be $150 per program (for up to 4 recruiters and assistants) and will cover the fair table and help us pay for the administration of the event. An electronic copy of the audition book will be made available to recruiters prior to the conference, but a hard-copy of the book can also be purchased in advance to be picked up on the day of the event for an additional $45.

Our goal is to create an event that meets the needs of both students and professors.  To that end we will:

  1. Maximize the number of students by keeping Acting/MT auditions to 1.5 minutes, and having an accompanist on-hand for Musical Theatre auditions; an organized exposition fair for Design-Tech; and a structured three-part Dance audition class consisting of Ballet, Modern, and Improvisation led by Rowan University's state-of-the-art faculty.

  2. Create a very clear callback posting process, which will allow maximum face time with students you wish to recruit.

  3. Keep the recruiting to only BA, BS, BM and BFA college programs, as well as accredited certification and summer intensive programs.

  4. Have an audition resume reference available for each of you with students’ contact info and criteria for choosing colleges, so you only recruit those who are a good match.

  5. Keep the event to only auditions and recruiting: no workshops to teach or adjudication.

Every recruiting team will receive their own table to set up with their recruiting material. Acting, Musical Theatre, and Design-Tech auditions will occur in Wilson Hall. This will allow for ample holding space, access to Pfleeger Concert Hall for the Acting and Musical Theatre auditions, consisting of two contrasting monologues (Acting) or one monologue and one contrasting song (MT), Wilson Lobby for the Design-Tech students tables/interviews, and private practice rooms with pianos for any one-on-one universities may require with prospective MT students. Dance auditions will also be held in Wilson Hall in our afternoon session, led by Rowan University's state-of-the-art faculty. The dance audition will consist of Modern Dance and Improvisational master classes. The students will not be presenting prepared solos.
